Our partners at BBMRI-ERIC are currently looking for a Legal Expert to join their ELSI Services & Research team, to support their activities in EPND and other projects.

Job title: Legal Expert (f/m/d) 

Job location: The Central Executive Management Office of BBMRI‐ERIC in Graz, Austria

Job purpose: As member of the ELSI Services & Research scientific affair, you will focus on legal requirements for data processing in the life sciences and contribute your foresight.

Details: As work-life balance is a high priority at BBMRI-ERIC less than a full-time contract (40 hours/week) can be agreed. We offer a 2-year contract with the possibility of extension.

Who we are: BBMRI-ERIC is a European research infrastructure for biobanking and biomolecular resources. We bring together all the main players from the biobanking field – researchers, biobankers, industry, and patients – to boost biomedical research. To that end, we offer a broad portfolio of IT services, from online tools and software solutions, to consulting and guidance in areas relevant to medical and health research, quality management services, support on ethical, legal and societal issues. Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • with your profound legal knowledge, you will assess existing data access conditions, relevant policies on data management, and data governance models in relation to their ethico-legal readiness
  • the ensurance of ethical and legal compliance in access management and data use for decentralised platforms is your strengths
  • your hands on mentality will facilitate the development of ELSI Recommendations for a platform’s Governance Framework including the technical and organisational safeguards

Other tasks and activities that you expand and further advance:

  • you will drive the involvement of relevant internal and external experts to meet project objectives and related tasks
  • your legal insights will impact stakeholder consultations
  • you will collaborate in an international multi-disciplinary team, spanning 23 Member States and 1 International Organisation of BBMRI-ERIC

In this role your required qualifications and skills are:

  • Experience in legal aspects of data management for the life sciences
  • Basic to excellent knowhow in ethical aspects of data management for the life sciences
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage tasks and tight deadlines
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good computer and software knowledge
  • Fluent in written and spoken English 
  • MSc or PhD in law

 Bonus qualifications and skills: 

  • Degree in ethics /certification of ethical know how
  • Experience in working with transnational, multidisciplinary groups
