This deliverable sets out the first EPND Data Management Plan, prepared under Work Package 8 and delivered in May 2022. It establishes the planned approach to managing research data across their lifecycle, including collection, processing, documentation, discovery, access, reuse and preservation.
The plan covers existing cohort data and data expected to be generated through EPND case studies. These include clinical information and molecular data such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics and microbiome data. It also considers computational outputs, including analytical models and their parameters. The document describes anticipated data flows involving contributing institutions, the AD Workbench and federated infrastructure.
A central section addresses the FAIR principles: making data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable. Planned measures include common data and metadata specifications, controlled vocabularies, dataset identifiers, harmonisation workflows and explicit licensing arrangements. The plan distinguishes cohort-level discovery from proposed participant-level discovery and describes how metadata could support searches across connected catalogues.
The document allocates responsibilities across the work packages. Work Package 1 leads technical FAIRification and platform development; Work Package 2 addresses ethical, legal and governance requirements; and other work packages contribute clinical standards, cohort engagement, case study data, stakeholder input and sustainability planning.
Data protection and security are addressed through planned authentication and authorisation controls, activity logging, access governance and a Data Protection Impact Assessment. The report identifies consent, research ethics approvals, data minimisation and applicable data protection requirements as considerations for sharing and reusing data. It also covers management of non-research project information, including internal documentation and communications.
As an initial planning document, D8.3 describes intended approaches rather than confirming completion of all proposed services. It was designed as a living document, with updates planned at the project’s midpoint and conclusion to reflect changes in data types, technical implementation and consortium policies.
