An article on EPND research has been published in the Nature Aging journal. The study was led by EPND co-Coordinator, Pieter Jelle Visser (University of Maastricht), with first author Betty Tijms and co-author Charlotte Teunissen, who are both partners in EPND.

Entitled "Cerebrospinal fluid proteomics in patients with Alzheimer’s disease reveals five molecular subtypes with distinct genetic risk profiles", the article identifies five molecular subtypes of Alzheimer’s disease. These findings, which are based on biomarker analyses of cerebrospinal fluid samples, shine a light on the biological heterogeneity of Alzheimer’s disease, and the potential need for tailored treatment to optimise patient outcomes.
