Watch the EPND Webinar: Introducing the EPND Hub, a unified platform for data and sample sharing

06/25/2025

Discover how the new EPND Hub is transforming neurodegenerative disease research through secure data and biosample sharing! The European Platform for Neurodegenerative Diseases (EPND) recently hosted a webinar introducing the EPND Hub—a centralised, secure environment designed to accelerate discovery, access, and collaboration across datasets and biosample collections. The recording is now available to watch online.

Presentation Summaries

Phil Scordis: EPND as an enabler of collaborative research at scale

Phil Scordis, Head of Patient Data Analytics at UCB Pharma and EPND co-lead, detailed the pressing challenges in neurodegenerative disease research, including siloed datasets, legal barriers, and fragmented infrastructure. He explained how the EPND Hub integrates interoperable technology with legal and ethical governance to support collaborative science. A key example discussed was EPND’s ATN dataset, which was recently made accessible via the EPND Hub. This dataset was created thanks to effective collaboration across 10 European cohorts, from three disease areas, and serves as a model for future use cases.

Matt Clement: the EPND Hub in action

Matt Clement, Director of Health & Life Sciences at Gates Ventures, led a live demonstration of the Hub’s functionalities. He highlighted access to metadata from over 100 studies, 110 datasets, and 33 biosample collections. Using intuitive search and filter functions, with secure request workflows, users can explore and request data. The platform features integration with the Alzheimer’s Disease Data Initiative Workbench and includes cloud-based workspaces, equipped with tools such as Jupyter Notebooks and RStudio. Matt emphasised features such as discoverability and access request tracking - essential for compliant, streamlined and impactful collaborations.
