EPND partners organise AAIC workshop on fluid biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease

07/08/2022

The Alzheimer's Association International Conference (AAIC), organised annually by the US Alzheimer's Association, is known as the world's largest forum for the dementia research community. At the 2022 AAIC meeting, EPND partners Charlotte Teunissen and Henrik Zetterberg are co-organising a workshop entitled "The basics of fluid biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease", featuring presentations from world-leading experts on the topic.

The fluid biomarkers field for Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other dementias is rapidly expanding, with huge potential to deliver improvements in diagnosis, treatment monitoring and care. The AAIC workshop aims to provide attendees with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles, inherent limitations and applications of the most common AD fluid biomarkers, including many of the biomarkers being investigated in EPND.

Alongside laboratory-focused sessions on neurochemistry, assay methods, quality control and regulatory considerations, the workshop will also address clinical considerations for AD biomarker implementation, disclosure and use, as well as emerging biomarkers and novel platforms in development. Expert speakers include Kaj Blennow (University of Gothenburg), Jonathan Schott (University College London Dementia Research Centre) and Alicia Algeciras-Schimnich (Mayo Clinic).
